It begins!

So, after many many hours, weeks, months (and really, years) of wanting and waiting, I finally managed to scrimp, save, and sell enough of my possessions to be able to afford . . . .

A van!

And being more precise, it (she) is a VW T4 2.D from 1998 with an AAB engine. I flew down to Southampton to pick her up from the previous owner, knowing there were a good few problems that needed sorting before I could consider it fully road worthy.

PROBLEMS:


# Lots of smoke on startup which disappears after about a mile
# Small fuel leak

From what I read, they seem like easy enough problems to fix, besides, the van, plane and fuel home had only cost me £1260 so a little more expense is not a concern right now, I expected it.

What I didn't expect however was 5th gear to completely disappear on the way home on the motorway. The journey home was 230 miles, and 220 miles into that journey, 5th gear just ceased to exist, so the remaining 10 miles was done in 4th. Hmmm, ok, maybe a few more quid needs spending than I anticipated, but still, not worrying about things like that yet.
